2021 Inorganic Symposium
On Thursday November 4, 2021 the 2nd Annual University of California Davis Inorganic Chemistry Symposium was held in a virtual format online. Over 180 attendees participated in the event, and these included a representative from Chevron Richmond, Dr. Atefeh Taheri, and many of our graduate student and postdoc alumni. The five invited speakers were Plenary Speaker Prof. Polly Arnold (UC Berkeley, LBNL), Prof. Trevor Hayton from UC Santa Barabara, Prof. Brandi Cossairt (U Washington), Prof. Natia Frank (U Nevada, Reno), and Prof. Lionel Cheruzel (Cal State San Jose).
In attendance from UC Davis were UC Davis faculty, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students. The days events included introductory remarks by the Symposium Chair Prof. Berben and by Chevron representative Dr. Taheri, talks by the invited speakers and a poster session with 42 presenters which were postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate students. The Symposium was also projected on a big screen in Chemistry Building Rm 166 so that students could view together.
The poster session was lively and well-attended with a lot of discussion between the 42 presenters and the attending faculty and students. Our poster judges were UC Davis alumni Jay Roudebush (Kauzlarich), Diego Rail (Berben), Joya Cooley (Kauzlarich), and Nasrin Kazem (Kauzlarich), and we appreciate their attendance and efforts. Poster Prize winners included 2 undergraduate researchers, 5 graduate students, and 2 postdocs. Honorable Mention was presented to an additional 6 graduate student poster presenters.
