The Davis−Beirut reaction is a versatile and robust NN bond forming heterocyclization reaction for indazole synthesis developed at UC Davis by Prof. Mark J. Kurth and Visiting Prof. Makhluf J. Haddadin. Recently, Kurth lab researchers drew upon their experience with the indazole forming reaction and discovered the key to optimizing this reaction to push it to new limits.  The details of this study are described in Organic Letters and are available online here.
