Registering for Variable Unit Courses

Research (CHE 099, CHE 199, CHE 194H)

To register for research units, students must complete the Variable Unit Request Form and the UC Laboratory Safety Fundamentals. The completed form and certificate of completion can be emailed to [email protected].

If needed, please follow the steps below to complete the UC Laboratory Safety Fundamentals training.

  • Fill out the Learning Management System Access Request Form.
  • Once you have been granted access, go to lms.ucdavis.edu from your browser to log in.
  • Search for the ECOURSE titled "UC Laboratory Safety Fundamentals." You may then begin the training by clicking on the "Start" button. The training takes about 90 minutes, and you can stop and restart the training from where you left off as needed.
  • Upon completion of the training, save your certificate and submit it along with the Variable Unit Request Form.

Other Variable Units (CHE 098, CHE 198, and CHE 192)

CHE 098 and 198 are for independent projects. These are typically done with a faculty member who can authorize these units. Students should complete the Variable Unit Request Form and email it to [email protected].

Che 192 is for internships. If you would like to see if you are eligible for CHE 192, please email your internship offer letter to [email protected] for additional guidance.
