Emerging consensus on photosynthetic oxygen evolution
In the most recent Science, Professor R. David Britt and Chemistry PhD student David Marchiori review the latest X-ray free electron laser structure of flash generated higher oxidations states of the photosystem II oxygen evolving complex (M. Suga et al., Science 366, 334 (2019)) and conclude that these experiments when combined with computational studies and recent EPR results are now pointing to a viable consensus mechanism for photosynthetic oxygen evolution.
