Moving Between Series

If you are considering moving between series, please meet with your major advisor to ensure your degree requirements are being fulfilled. Different majors will require different series. 

  • CHE 2 and CHE 4 Series
  • If students started in CHE 2 series:
    CHE 2A > CHE 2B > CHE 2C
    CHE 2A > CHE 4A (28+ on Placement Exam) > CHE 4B > CHE 4C
    CHE 2A > CHE 2B (B or better) > CHE 4C

    If students started in CHE 4 series:
    CHE 4A > CHE 4B > CHE 4C
    CHE 4A > CHE 4B > CHE 2C
    CHE 4A > CHE 2A (Exempt from 2A lab with a passing lab grade in CHE 4A) > CHE 2B > CHE 2C
  • PHY 7 and PHY 9 Series
  • If students want to move from PHY 7 to PHY 9:
    Following PHY 7A or 7AB, students will need to take PHY 9A > PHY 9B > PHY 9C. Students will receive only 2 units of credit each for 9A and 9B.

    If students want to move from PHY 9 to PHY 7:
    Following PHY 9A, students will need to take PHY 7A > PHY 7B > PHY 7C. They will receive only 2 units of credit for 7B.

    Following PHY 9AB, students will need to take PHY 7B > 7C. This will receive only 2 units of credit for 7B.

    Following PHY 9AC, students will need to take PHY 7A and PHY 7C. They will receive only 2 units of credit for 7C.
  • CHE 8, CHE 118, and CHE 128/129 Series
  • All of the following courses may be taken for full credit unless otherwise stated.

    If students started in CHE 8 series:
    after CHE 8A: 118A (2 units), 128A (2 units), or 129A
    after CHE 8AB: 129A, 118B, or 128B

    If students started in CHE 118 series:
    after CHE 118A: 8B, 128B, or 129A
    after CHE 118AB: 8B (1 unit, lab exempt), 128C, or 129B
    after CHE 118ABC: 129C

    If students started in CHE 128/129 series:
    after CHE 128A: 8B or 118B
    after CHE 128A and 129A: 8B (3 units, lab exempt) or 118B
    after CHE 128AB: 8B (2 units) or 118B (1 unit)
    after CHE 128AB and 129A: 8B (1 unit, lab exempt) or 118C
    after CHE 128AB and 129AB: 8B (1 unit, lab exempt) or 118C
  • MAT 17, MAT 19, and MAT 21 Series
  • Unless otherwise noted, students must earn a C- or better to progress to the next course.

    If students started in MAT 17 series:
    after MAT 17A: 19B or 21B (with B or better)
    after MAT 17AB: 19C or 21C (with B or better)
    after MAT 17ABC: 21C or 21D (with B or better)

    If students started in MAT 19 series:
    after MAT 19A: 17B or 21B (with B or better)
    after MAT 19AB: 21C (with B or better)
    after MAT 19ABC: 21C or 21D (with B or better)

    If students started in MAT 21 series:
    after MAT 21A: 17B or 19B
    after MAT 21AB: 19C
