The Department of Chemistry allows students to change their major to one of the following upon meeting the requirements below.
- B.S. in Applied Chemistry, Environmental
- B.S. in Applied Chemistry, Forensics
- B.S. in Chemical Physics
- B.S. in Chemistry
- B.S in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design
- A.B. in Chemistry
Academic Standing
Students must be in Good Academic Standing to complete the Change of Program Petition. To be in Good Academic Standing, students must (a) have a UC GPA of 2.000 or above and (b) have a degree progress average of 12 units per quarter. Academic standing is established after students have completed a single quarter at UC Davis, and is reevaluated every quarter thereafter. In other words, incoming first-year or transfer students must wait until their second quarter to complete a major change.
Academic Planning
We ask that students planning to change majors in the Department of Chemistry familiarize themselves with the requirements of their intended major and draft an academic plan through graduation. This draft should be created for review using the Academic Plan Form through OASIS under "Forms and Petitions." Lists of course requirements, sample plans, and course scheduling summaries can be found on our department webpage for your intended major.
Appointment with a Chemistry Advisor
After establishing Good Academic Standing and drafting an academic plan, students must schedule an appointment with a member of the Chemistry Advising Team for a formal review of their intended major requirements and academic plan. Students outside of the Chemistry Department do not have access to our Advising Appointment System calendar. To schedule an appointment, please contact [email protected] with your general availability. Our Peer Advisors will work with you to schedule you.
Submit the Change of Program Petition
The Change of Program Petition allows students to formally change their program, whether that be their major, major emphasis, or minor. This form is accessible through OASIS under "Forms and Petitions." Your Change of Program Petition will be returned if you do not have Good Academic Standing, an Academic Plan, or an appointment with a Chemistry Advisor.
