Chemical Biology Program Trainees

Seminars

CHE 290: Seminar is scheduled for Tuesdays and select Thursdays during the academic year in 179 Chemistry from 4:10 PM to 6:00 PM. Please refer to the Upcoming Events feed on our homepage or Seminar Calendar for details of upcoming seminar speakers, as well as special seminars outside of CHE 290.

Careers in Chemistry

Careers in Chemistry is designed to give an in-depth appreciation of career opportunities with a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in chemistry. Professional chemists (and allied professionals) give seminars describing both research and career insights. All are welcome to attend. (Fall quarter only)

Chemical Biology Innovation Group Meetings

CBIG Meetings highlight research-in-progress by chemical biologists at UC Davis. Each meeting has speakers presenting projects that are mature, with the talks often focused on recently submitted or published papers. These meetings are open to all students and faculty conducting research at the interface of chemistry and biology (also see Chemical Biology Program).

Meetings are held on select Wednesdays throughout the academic year in the Alumni Center (AGR Room) from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Lunch and refreshments are provided courtesy of Fisher Scientific.

Science Café

The Davis Science Café series was founded in 2012 by Professor Jared Shaw, initially supported by the National Science Foundation and currently supported by the Department of Chemistry and Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and promoted by Capital Science Communicators. Hosted on the second Wednesday of each month. Free to the public.

Events

R. Bryan Miller Symposium

Save the Date!  March 14-15, 2024: The Miller Symposium celebrates the contributions of Professor R. Bryan Miller in Organic Chemistry that laid the foundation for our thriving programs in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at UC Davis. The Symposium features top speakers from industry and academia that will share cutting-edge research at the interface between Chemistry, Biology and Medicine.

West Coast Theoretical Chemistry Meeting

May 6, 2023: The West Coast Theoretical Chemistry Meeting at UC Davis aims to bring together graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and industry scientists for a 1-day meeting to discuss and present their research across all areas of theoretical chemistry in the form of talks and posters.  This is the third meeting of an annual series of meetings that has previously taken place at Stanford University and UC Berkeley.  This meeting was originally scheduled for May 2, 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19.

Richard Larock Undergraduate Research Conference

May 18, 2024: The Richard Larock Undergraduate Research Conference features research seminars given by outstanding undergraduate students mentored in Chemistry and Biology. The Plenary Conference Speaker is usually a former UC Davis undergraduate that has gone on to become a prominent research scientist. The conference is supported by a generous financial gift from Richard Larock, who is a UC Davis undergraduate alumnus and is now a retired Chemistry Professor from Iowa State University.

Chemical Biology Program Retreat

The Chemical Biology Program Retreat is a day of scientific talks by graduate students conducting research at the interface of chemistry and biology and features a student-invited keynote speaker from industry or academia. The program is supported by a NIH T32 Training Grant with matching funds from UC Davis and provides fellowships for 3-4 highly qualified predoctoral candidates annually.

Career Conference in Chemistry

The Career Conference in Chemistry is a half-day outreach event that takes place on the UC Davis campus. The purpose of the conference is two-fold: (1) It is a vehicle where undergraduate Chemistry majors can learn from recruiters or representatives about what skills they need to develop upon entering their post-graduate careers; and, (2) it also gives invited companies and organizations the opportunity to meet with our majors first-hand. The conference is sponsored by the Department of Chemistry, ACS of Sacramento, and Chemistry Club.

SCInema

SCInema aims to educate a general audience about the current state of science and technology depicted on the silver screen by pairing popular movies with TED-style talks given by leading experts in the field.

Inorganic Chemistry Symposium

The University of California Davis Inorganic Chemistry symposium was designed with the intention to highlight cutting edge studies in inorganic chemistry, broadly defined, and particularly as an educational event for our undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Chemistry at UC Davis. The day’s events include a schedule of invited speakers, a student poster session following lunch, poster prizes, and a dinner for speakers and UC Davis faculty.  This symposium is hosted in collaboration with Chevron Inc. who are located just one hour from the University of California Davis and who have an interest in supporting the undergraduate and graduate education programs at UC Davis in the Department of Chemistry.

Winston Ko Lecture Series

May 15, 2023: The Winston Ko Professorship in Science Leadership Lecture Presents "A Radical Approach to Antibiotic Resistance" presented by Dr. Squire J Booker. The Ko Lecture series was endowed by former dean Winston Ko upon his retirement from the UC Davis Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
