New Organic Chemistry Series (CHE 50, 60, & 70)

Beginning in Fall 2027, CHE 8, CHE 118, and CHE 128/129 will be replaced with CHE 50, CHE 50, and CHE 70, respectively. The content sequence will be very similar. The lecture and lab will now be separate courses, allowing students more flexibility with registration.

CHE 8B -> CHE 50B + CHE 50BL

CHE 118A -> CHE 60A

CHE 118B -> CHE 60B + CHE 60BL

CHE 118C -> CHE 60C + CHE 60CL

CHE 128A + CHE 129A -> CHE 70A + CHE 70AL

CHE 128B + CHE 129B -> CHE 70B + CHE 70BL

CHE 128C + CHE 129C -> CHE 70C + CHE 70CL

  • What's Changing

  • - Lecture and labs will now be taught as two separate courses with some updated unit distributions. 

    - While lectures and labs need to be taken in sequence, labs will not be a prerequisite for lecture courses. Because of this, these courses will not have repeater sections.

    Repeats 
    If you need to repeat CHE 8B, CHE 118A, or CHE 128A  upon discontinuation, special repeater sections will be available in Winter 2028. Similarly, a special repeater section of CHE 8A will be planned for Spring 2028. You are eligible to enroll in one of these courses only if you previously received a grade of D+ or below.
