Beginning in Fall 2027, The CHE 5 series for general chemistry will be introduced and the CHE 2 series will be phased out. Similarly, the CHE 6 series will replace CHE 4. The content sequence will be very similar. The lecture and lab will now be separate courses, allowing students more flexibility with registration.
CHE 2A -> CHE 5A + CHE 5LV
CHE 2B -> CHE 5B + CHE 5BL
CHE 2C -> CHE 5C + CHE 5CL
CHE 4A -> CHE 6A + CHE 6AL
CHE 4B -> CHE 6B + CHE 6BL
CHE 4C -> CHE 6C + CHE 6CL
- What's Changing
- Lecture and labs will now be taught as two separate courses. Lectures will be 4 units while labs will be 1 unit.
- While lectures and labs need to be taken in sequence, labs will not be a prerequisite for lecture courses. Because of this, CHE 5 and CHE 6 courses will not have repeater sections.
-The lab of CHE 2A will be converted to a lab fundamentals course, which will focus on building scientific thinking skills and preparing students for wet lab work.

Repeats
If you need to repeat CHE 2A or CHE 2B upon discontinuation, special repeater sections will be available in Winter 2028. You are eligible to enroll in one of these courses only if you previously received a grade of D+ or below and have previously passed the lab portion of the class. The repeater sections will only include the lecture portion of the class.
A request form will be posted prior to Winter 2028 registration.
