Students registered in CHE 2A during Summer Session One are required to satisfy the Chemistry Placement Requirement to ensure their enrollment in the course. We do not accept SAT, ACT, AP, IB scores or previous General Chemistry or Math coursework taken at another college as exemptions from these placement requirements.
Students who do not satisfy the Chemistry Placement Requirements will be administratively dropped from CHE 2A no matter what anyone else, including an adviser or an instructor, may have told them. Exemptions to the Chemistry Placement Requirements are not granted.
There are two pathways towards satisfying the Chemistry Placement Requirements:
Pathway #1 -Take the Chemistry Placement Exam and the Math Placement Exam. The Chemistry Placement Exam and the Math Placement Exam are not meant to test whether students can earn high scores; Rather, they are designed to assess one's abilty to succeed at the college level.
The Chemistry Placement Exam and the Math Placement Exam are available online only. There is one testing session for Summer Session One. Students may take the exams once during the testing session. As with any exam, if you need special accommodations due to a disability, please contact the Student Disability Center.
Pathway #2 - Passing WLD 41C with a grade of "P" or "C or better." Do note that passing WLD 41C only waives a qualifying score from the Chemistry Placement Exam. Students must still earn a qualifying score from the Math Placement Exam to ensure enrollment in CHE 2A.
For Summer Session One, the upcoming testing session to take the Chemistry Placement Exam and/or the Math Placement Exam is:
To ensure enrollment in CHE 2A, students must earn a score of "21 or better" on the Chemistry Placement Exam and a score of "25 or better" on the Math Placement Exam.
